Students in Boma, South Sudan Enjoys Spring Break
May 8th in Boma, South Sudan marks the completion of the first term at Faith Learning Center for the 2015 school year. The students will enjoy a few weeks off to recharge their batteries and to have a little fun. Much like our own summer vacation, the children need a break after 5 months of intensive study. The kids have done very well and we are excited about their progress.
Furlough for our Missionaries
On Tuesday, May 12th, several of the staff will be returning to Kenya for a well deserved rest. Due to past security issues with our compound, we have decided to rotate furloughs for our missionaries and will take half of them out this month with the remaining half leaving in June when the first group returns. It is more costly to do it this way, but we feel it is important to maintain a presence in Boma at all times. If you would like to help offset this additional expense, please consider an online gift to bless our staff with a needed vacation.
Please pray for our staff as they take some time to rest and regroup these next two months.
Agricultural Program
The 10 acres of land cultivated in February and March has been fully planted with corn and beans. We are very excited to see what God will do with this initiative. The children have all played a role in this project and are learning the process of growing food in a practical setting. Each day the children spend 45 minutes to an hour working on the farm being taught the skills needed to support their future families. There is much work remaining to keep the crop in good condition until harvest in September; it is critical these crops come in well because it is the first step in sustaining the School Feeding Program. This project is only partially funded and we ask that you prayerfully consider supporting this effort.
Final Thoughts
In closing, I want to thank you for your prayers and support. God is using you to improve the lives of these children and to give them a future. As I added these pictures to the email, I am thrilled to be a part of this work, God’s work, in Boma. May God bless these young children and bring them peace through our Lord Jesus Christ.
